Byron Kalomamas (b. Athens, Greece) studied at the School of Fine Arts (Athens) and at Goldsmiths University (London).
He develops a practice spanning installations, video essays, interactive mechanisms, and collaborative processes. His works form an experimental testing ground for producing knowledge and experience beyond the confines of artistic discipline; in his hands, functional objects – such as machines, shelters, furniture – are understood as containers of material realities that expose the ideological frameworks embedded in their making.
The familiar sense of functionality in his work becomes a site of convergence between meaning and interpretation, as viewers often assume a performative role within the very mechanisms he creates.
He was an ARTWORKS Fellow (2020–21) and a resident at Sakiya (Ramallah, 2022). In 2025, he participated in In a Bright Green Field, organised by the DESTE Foundation (Athens) and the New Museum (New York). Previous exhibitions and screenings have taken place at Chisenhale Gallery and Seventeen Gallery (London), Kunstbau (Munich), and the Benaki Museum (Athens)
